Many people have compiled great lists of resources, organizations, initiatives, and people doing amazing work on the planet.  Here are some places to get started:

 

WiserEarth helps the global movement of people and organizations working toward social justice, indigenous rights, and environmental stewardship connect, collaborate, share knowledge, and build alliances.  It is the world's largest, free and editable international directory of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and socially responsible organizations.

 

The Global Stewards has put together a list of environmental tips for sustainable living and information about innovative solutions that are making the shift to green more practical and accessible to all.

 

350.org is building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis.  Their online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass mobilizations are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries.  Here is a great list of partners and allies to 350.org

 

The Story of Stuff  - With over 12 million on-line views, The Story of Stuff is one of the most widely viewed environmental-themed short films of all time. Since its release in December 2007, The Story of Stuff has been shown in thousands of schools, houses of worship, community events and businesses around the world.  Here is a list of "NGOs Doing Good Stuff" compiled by The Story of Stuff.


The State of Washington's Department of Ecology has compiled a list of Sustainability Organizations.  The mission of the Department of Ecology is to protect, preserve and enhance Washington’s environment, and promote the wise management of our air, land and water for the benefit of current and future generations. 

 

The World Environmental Organization (World.Org) is devoted to the preservation of the natural diversity of plant and animal species, and their habitats, through the prevention of environmental degradation and destruction. World.Org develops and implements scientific strategies for decreasing fossil fuel use, preventing climate change, and preserving plant and animal species and their habitats.  Here is their list of The Top 100 Sustainable Growth Sites
